Artist's Notes for Pinch Me:
This song was first penned 22 years ago when I successfully made a challenging and risky career shift. I didn't perform the song very often, but it was always one of my favorites because every word is a personal truth. It always made me so proud and happy to remember that accomplishment. Then, as I chose songs for this debut recording project, I realized this song expressed exactly how I feel now about producing my own music and getting it out in the world, and I knew I had to include it. I'm so pleased with the unconventional choice to use a brass trio on it. It makes this song even more special and worthy of being the album's title. The cover art on the CD (my concept, but skillfully executed by David C. Perry) was inspired by the lyrics in the second verse.
Featured performers include Ari Heitler-Klevans (French Horn), Josh Anderson (trumpet), and Andrew Weber (tuba). Brass arrangement written by yours truly.

Lyrics

Pinch Me

It’s really gonna happen, I’m on the road to recovery
I feel so alive now, I start to discovery me
Feels so right that I’m sure it must be
I’m holding onto the dream this time
Feels so good that the world’s gotta trust me
I’ll make it big when I make this climb

Pinch me, am I doing it
Pinch me, is this my life
It hits me all at once: I’m really on my way!

Took a lot of steps to get here, but I got many more to go
So I’m only halfway up, but this is a big plateau
And I’m walkin’ ‘round in a dream this morning
See my reflection as I walk by
Reality comes over me without warning
I see a powerful look in my eye

Pinch me, am I doing it
Pinch me, is this my life
It hits me all at once: I’m really on my way!

It’s just a little bit unfamiliar
I don’t look like the me I knew
So this is what it feels like
To have every wish come true

For a while I’ve been dead now, just moving from day to day
Had time on my hands, but didn’t want to sing or play
Now I’m revived and feeling dizzy, I’m inspired to write again
I make the time even though I’m busy
I wrote this line at 3 AM

Pinch me, am I doing it
Pinch me, is this my life
It hits me all at once: I’m really on my way!
It hits me all at once now, I’m really on my way
